This past weekend, Phaedra, Zander and Izzy joined me for a camping trip in Itasca State Park. We helped with the Tour de Pines bike ride and we also explored parts of this great state park.
Part of the fun was introducing the kids to the headwaters of the Mississippi River. You can walk (or swim) across the beginning of the Mighty Miss at the north end of the park.

A BIG Hello from Dauphin Island, Alabama. Tina and I spent our first full day on the island and saw 46 species of birds…. and its really slow with Warblers. DI is one of the top birding spots in the southeast with a record of 347 species of birds having been reported. (roughly 50% of all the birds in North America.) Some of our favorites today were a Red-headed Woodpecker, the Snowy Egret and the Rudy Turnstone. Here are some shots of several Turnstone’s mixing it up with Sanderlings.

Awesome week on Hatteras Island. 71 species of birds, long walks on the beach, visits to Bodie Lighthouse, Pea Island and Little Kinnakeet. I’ve combined some images and video shot with a Canon 5D. Sorry for the length…I tried hard to delete stuff down to a reasonable length but it still seems a bit long.

Took Aurora camping at Itasca State Park this past weekend. Really enjoyed walking in the water and collecting rocks.
