Mother's Day already

May 11, 2008 | Birding, Family, Personal

Today is May 11th, and I realized that I haven’t posted anything since April 30th. Where has the time gone and why is it moving so fast?

Last weekend, Tina and I got away to Frontenac, MN for a 2 day Yoga retreat. Virginia, (our teacher) and her husband hold a retreat once a year for about 25 students. We participated in 4 classes, ate wonderful meals and enjoyed the wonderful setting at Villa Maria and Old Frontenac. Sorry, but all of the pictures I took are of birds and not the retreat. Highlights included hiking in Frontenac State Park with friends Mary and Beth, chasing warblers through the under brush and watching 100+ chimney swifts enter an old masonry chimney in the facility at dusk. It happened to be a great place & time to do some birding, with Warblers and other song birds passing through the area.

All week, I’ve tried to sneak off at least one hour for a walk and to enjoy the spring migration. We’ve seen warblers, vireos, orioles and a host of other migrants passing through on their way ‘up north’. I’m getting better at shooting birds with a heavy 400mm lens. I have been sending out one good shot in an email each day as a teaser for my web album. If you like to receive one of the emails, just let me know and I’ll add you to the list. Otherwise, you can enjoy some of this months images at: http://picasaweb.google.com/bnwilson6624/BackyardBirdingMay2008.

Happy Mother’s Day to all those hard working Mom’s (and Grandma’s) that keep the world running smoothly in spite of husbands and children. I hope that all Mom’s know how much you’re appreciated and respected even though we (the non-mom’s), don’t always get around to saying it out loud. Enjoy the moments as time is really clicking along and an ever maddening pace.
