Peregrine Release

Nov 1, 2009 | Birding

Last week, I was asked to transport a Peregrine to Hastings for a release.  The release was yesterday at the Carpenter Nature Center.  Birds in boxes sometimes thrash around and damage themselves, so I was asked to pick up the bird early Saturday morning and hand hold him in my lap.  Tina chauffeured us and spoke softly to the bird to keep him calm.  He wore a leather hood to keep him in a calm state.  He actually fell a sleep in the car ride.

We met Bill and Sharon Frank (and several family members) at the center and after a few minutes of fun facts and hand holding techniques, Sharon released the Peregrine into the St. Croix River Valley flyway.  Sadly, the camera missed the actually release moment, as an older lens wouldn’t focus.
