Long-tailed Duck

Dec 21, 2009 | Birding

Minnesota birders have been enjoying sightings of this Arctic duck along the Mississippi River.  Formerly known as Oldsquaw, the Long-tailed Duck breeds in the Arctic and winters along both coasts of North America. It is distinctive among ducks in plumage, molt sequences, foraging behavior, and vocalizations.

2 of them were last seen off Point Douglas Point between Hastings, MN and Prescott, Wi.
