Back in Minnesota

May 4, 2010 | Birding, Travel

Tina and I are back in Minnesota after 3 weeks on the road.  Our destination was Dauphin Island, Alabama. We met my parents, aunt Pam and cousin Laura for for some bird watching, beach walking and family time.  Along the way we camped in Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi and Indiana on the return trip.  State Parks were great especially in Mississippi much to our surprise.

One of the highlights of the trip was a boat ride out to Cat Island, a 3 acre spit of island that is being inhabited by several 1000 roosting White Ibis, Reddish, Cattle and Snowy Egrets, Tri-colored and Little Blue Herons, Brown and White Pelicans and numerous shorebirds.  It seems that Cat Island is in the path of the oncoming oil-spill.  We pray for all of the gulf coast barrier islands and shoreline.
