Not sure what happened yesterday. Maybe the birds heard it might snow, maybe they heard 40 degree temps are arriving this week, or maybe it was just our new hawk moved on… But whatever it was, we had more birds in the yard than probably any day since we moved back to St. Paul.
We counted 17 species. Highlights included our first Cedar Waxwing for 2008, a pair of Hairy’s and both Mr. and Mrs. Pileated. The White-breasted nuthatch and Downy’s were especially frisky.
Only one not identified is the guy on the left. Very vocal, orange color on beek, some yellow… maybe a young gold finch puffed out in the cold? Not really sure but still fun. Now if i just see a robin this week, and the Juncos move out, we can pretend it’s spring.
