Birding in February

Mar 3, 2009 | Birding

Birding this past month has had a few surprises and a whole host of usual suspects.  White-winged Crossbills and 100’s of Common Redpolls were the newest additions to our back yard list. Chickadee, Downy, WB Nuthatch, Cardinal, Crow and Dove are in the yard daily.  An occasional Red-bellied Woodpecker and Northern Flicker keep us watching the feeders.

The weather man says we have probably had our last below zero evening and day light is getting longer.  One great sign this past weekend that spring might be just around the corner, was the visit of a small flock of Robins.  They flew in to visit the  front yard bird bath and the neighbors crab apple tree.

Here is a good picture of an American Robin having a mid day fruit snack.
