Common Eider (Life Bird)

Mar 28, 2010 | Birding

Tina and I spent last week in New England with my parents doing mostly genealogy stuff.  We also snuck in a bit of birding in CT and MA.   I saw a life bird in Plymouth when we found several Common Eider’s hanging out in the harbor.

“A colorful duck of the northern seacoasts, the Common Eider is the largest duck in the Northern Hemisphere. The male’s bright white, black, and green plumage contrasts markedly with the female’s camouflaging dull striped brown.”
